In the near future icebreakers of the project “Leader” will provide icebreaking support on the Northern Sea Route

Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin hopes that the newest three Russian icebreakers of the project 10510 “Leader” will be built in 2023 — 2025. He declared about it in the interview to the TV channel “Rossiya 24”.
Rosatom was entrusted to consider the algorithm of financing of not one but three icebreakers within public-private partnership. Then the entire Northern Sea Route will be opened. Any customer will be able to receive icebreaking support of transit through the Northern Sea Route — caravans with goods from Asia to Europe. Domestic hydrocarbons in the form of liquefied natural gas will be transported not only to Europe but also to Southeast Asia, as he says.
Deputy Prime Minister adds that the icebreakers of the project 10510 will be ready in 2023, 2024 and 2025, as ru.arctic.ru reports. In his opinion, these vessels can be built on the most modern domestic shipbuilding plant “Zvezda” in Primorsky Krai.
A dry dock will be input to operation in 2019, “imagine the size: the length — 484 meters, the width — 114 meters, two aircraft carriers can be built there at the same time”, as he brought an example.
Dmitry Rogozin notes that three icebreakers of the current generation are being built in parallel in Saint Petersburg — “Arctic”, “Ural” and “Siberia”. They will be input to operation in 2019 — 2021, they will allow providing completely year-round icebreaking support from the Yamal Peninsula to the West.
At the seventh international forum “The Arctic: present and future” Rogozin told about the intention to build ships in the format of public-private partnership.
