This year cruise ships arrived to Russian Arctic National Park on three routes. 6 of them by the nuclear-powered icebreaker “50 Let Pobedy” went to the North Pole with visiting Franz Josef Land, three – by the motor ship “Sea Spirit” on the route Spitsbergen – Franz Josef Land. By the ship “Akademik Shokalskiy” they made two journeys on the Northern Sea Route. Also the statistics includes the trip of the Arctic Floating University.
This season the weather was unstable, the summer on the arctic archipelagoes started later, as it is informed on the website of the national park. The average monthly air temperature in June was lower than the norm, in July it was frosty and snowy at times.
As the director of Russian Arctic National Park Alexander Kirilov says, there were no considerable changes in routes of expedition groups of the travel companies Quark Expeditions, Poseidon Expeditions and Heritage Expeditions. And the difficult ice situation even contributed to visual appeal of the cruises: the visitors were able to see the bigger number of representatives of arctic fauna than usually.
5500 tourists from more than 60 countries visited Russian Arctic National Park in summer from 2011 to 2016.
