As its director general Tu Deming notes, the way of the ship from the Chinese port of Lianyungang to Saint Petersburg took almost 40 days through the Chukchi Sea and the East Siberian Sea, the Laptev, the Kara and the Barents seas and others. Now the ship is going to the Spanish town Aviles, to where it should arrive on the 15th of September. On its board there is a consignment of railroad and building equipment and other goods.
COSCO has delivered cargoes on the Northern Sea Route since 2013, but earlier ships of this company went to the port of Rotterdam. The cargoes to Saint Petersburg were delivered this way for the first time, as korabli.eu informs. In comparison to the traditional route through the Suez Canal this way is shorter on more than 2800 nautical miles.
