Being based on scientific and research stations. Points of growth of Yamal science were named

Scientific and research stations were and remain points of scientific growth in Yamal. In the coming year their geography will enlarge, their material and technical base will be strengthened, and new tasks will be set before them. This information was given by the director of the department on science and innovations of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Aleksey Titovskiy.

As he says, if one of the first scientific and research stations, now very demanded by Russian and foreign scientists, was opened on Beliy Island, then in 2018 the emphasis will be placed on development of such reference points for scientists in the Polar Urals. Ichthyologic and ethnographic researches will be their specialization. The network of scientific and research stations will be developed also on the Gydan Peninsula, where there is already the study area on Parisento Lake.
This year, according to the director of the department, the vector for even closer cooperation with the Russian Academy of Sciences will be continued.
The task is to ensure that regional researches would be in maximum closely integrated into management of science in general in the country, as it cannot develop in isolation from major scientific centers, there should be coordination and cooperation, as he notes. This issue will be raised at the working group on science and education within the State Commission on Arctic Development. The session will take place this spring in Salekhard.
Work under federal grants will be continued. The project proposed by the Russian Foundation for fundamental research was started in 2015, and three-year studies were conducted. This year, according to the new program of the Foundation, researches will be one year long. Grants for them will be allocated on terms of co-financing. Last week receiving of applications was completed, and almost 50 applications were received from both major federal scientific organizations and employees of the scientific center for study of the Arctic in cooperation with the RAS.
This year scientists in Yamal will solve applied problems, in particular, they will conduct the final stage of work on geobotanical assessment of state of reindeer pastures in Priuralskiy district. Then at the round table the researchers together with representatives of communities of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North, heads of agricultural enterprises will discuss results and opportunities for preservation of pastures.
Aleksey Titovskiy reminds about many years of work of scientists on adaptation of various plants to modern arctic conditions for more effective land reclamation, planting of greenery in arctic towns and settlements. The list of species of plants that can take root and be cultivated was selected. This project was completed, but there are plans with employees of Saint Petersburg State Forest Technical University to conduct experiments on technologies of accelerated growth of moss and lichens, at least on small areas. Today, according to the director of the department, there are no such technologies anywhere in the world; they are very complex, costly, but important for reindeer husbandry of Yamal.
Also, specialists of the department together with scientists from Geneva, who are currently working in Yamal, plan to think on the scientific and educational project between students of the Autonomous Okrug and Switzerland, following the example of the international Arctic school successfully conducted in Nadym and organized jointly with Tyumen State University and the University of Munster, Germany last year.
This is a good example of scientific diplomacy, which is now acquiring special significance, as Aleksey Titovskiy says.
