Scientists from the town Tomsk designed the prototype of the compact meteorological station adapted to conditions of the Arctic. It is resistant to cold – can endure 70C degrees below zero and other extreme outside impacts – it alone replaces all devices being used in a standard meteorological station.
By the words of the deputy director of the designing company «Sibanalitpribor» (Sibanalitpribor Scientific & Production Co., Ltd) Vladimir Korolkov, the new ultrasound station can work during a year in autonomic mode without human participation. Measurements are conducted from 10 to 80 times per second. Such frequency is necessary at measuring, for example, of wind speed in order to exclude an error arising due to turbulence of air flows. The received information is transmitted to the server on any accessible channel – wire, cellular or satellite communication.
Owing to compactness and ability to work without human participation, innovative meteorological stations can be placed close enough to each other. It will considerably increase accuracy of weather forecasts. At the same time, it will not be necessary to create additional infrastructure and to have a staff of meteorologists, as it is informed on the portal smartnews.ru. The station can be used in the Arctic for demands of the army and meteorological accompanying of navigation on the Northern Sea Route.
