Collars with satellite sensors will be put on polar bears

The Arctic Research and Design Center (the joint enterprise of Rosneft and ExxonMobil) and the public organization «The Marine Mammal Council» concluded the contract for conducting of scientific and research work on study of polar bears in districts of prospective development of hydrocarbon fields.
It is planned to conduct the basic kinds of work on study of polar bears during the expedition «Kara-Summer» on arctic seas, which will take place from the end of July to October. The specialists-zoologists hope to receive data about distribution of polar bears in the areas under researching, to put collars with satellite sensors on grownup polar bears and to follow their translocation. Besides, it is planned to conduct biological researches, which allow evaluating influence of changes in the environment on polar bears, to take DNA for further molecular and genetic analysis.
