Students of the third course of Tyumen State Oil and Gas University were in the Siberian scientific analytical center on the excursion.
They saw the unique collection of minerals of the Polar Urals. The students, who had chosen exploration geophysics as their future specialization, were interested in facts from history of rare exhibits from the world of stones. The chief of the department of mineral resources Andrey Shadrin told about them.
The future geophysicists appreciated the whole diversity of natural resources – oxides, hydroxides, framework silicates, nesosilicates, chain silicates, band silicates, layered silicates, halides, sulfides and many others. Petrified trees became the real decoration of the collection. The place of origin of «the petrified forest» is Northern Arizona, the USA. Such trees grew on the western coast of the hypothetic continent Pangea hundreds millions years ago.
The students watched the documentary film made in the Siberian scientific analytical center that told about the heroic epoch of development of subsoil in Tyumen Oblast. Vladimir Bochkaryov, the Honored Geologist of Russia, spoke on the lecture about a general model of the structure of Western Siberia on geological and geophysical data.
