Inhabitants of Tazovskiy district supported the project on changing of the borders of Messoyakha wildlife reserve on the public hearings, which took place in the settlement Tazovskiy. The area of the wildlife reserve will increase from 91 thousand to 114 thousand hectares, and the Messoyakha River will be protected from harmful impact and accessible only for traditional use, as the TV and radio company of Tazovskiy district «Studio Fact» informs.
Complex ecological research of the wildlife reserve was conducted by the design and research enterprise «Sibzemproekt». The main problem, which will be solved by the project, is impossibility to conduct geological prospecting on the territory of the Eastern-Messoyakha licensed area because of its crossing with the wildlife reserve.
The subsoil user «Messoyakha-neftegaz» searched the way out from the formed situation together with the district administration, public organizations and the regional nature-protecting service. The variant on changing of the borders of the wildlife reserve allows oil workers to conduct prospecting of subsoil and to fulfill license obligations before the state and also solves the main task of the wildlife reserve – it protects the riverbed of the Messoyakha River. The buffer zone, on which it is forbidden to fulfill production activity, will be made along the river. The lands near the floodplain will be included into the wildlife reserve.
The company «Messoyakha-neftegaz» found the way to reduce the number of wells necessary for geological prospecting and to remote them in maximum from the river. Only 5500 hectares are necessary to oil workers for removal of geological risks. Correction of the program on subsoil research approved earlier is a bright example of respectful attitude of oil workers to interests of indigenous population of the district.
Opinions of the participants of the public hearings and inhabitants of territories between settlements were taken into consideration at counting of votes. The district branch of the association of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North «Yamal – for descendants» conducted social research for nomadic population. The majority voted for fulfillment of the project on changing of the borders of the wildlife reserve. The ecological expertise of the project will follow the public hearings. After that the government of Yamal will be able to take the final decision and to approve the new borders of the wildlife reserve.
