The issue about necessity to prepare the dictionary of juridical terms in languages of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North was scrutinized on the sitting of the committee on affairs of nationalities and public associations at the Legislative Assembly of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. It is suggested translating the Criminal and Criminal Procedure Codes of the Russian Federation into Nenets, Khanty, Selkoup languages, as it is informed to IA «Sever-Press» in the press-service of the regional parliament.
The request of the Yamal Regional Office of the Ministry for Internal Affairs to the address of the parliament of Yamal about necessity to create the corresponding working group served the basis for scrutinizing of the issue. The group would be able to include specialists of jurisprudence, who can freely speak native languages of peoples of the North, and also experienced interpreters and translators in juridical sphere. It is connected with some problematic questions that appear in some territorial bodies of the Ministry for Internal Affairs at simultaneous use of the state (Russian) language and national languages.
As it is noted in the press-service, work on translation of federal laws and laws of the region has been already conducted in the parliament of Yamal. The Statute (the Basic Law) of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug and laws in the sphere of guarantees and rights of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North were translated into languages of indigenous peoples.
The conclusion that it needs to continue translation work and to set it on systematic basis is the result of the discussion. Therefore, the committee intends to apply to the government of the region for the suggestion to elaborate and approve the program of work on translation of federal and regional normative and legal acts into languages of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North. Also the issue on education of certified translators and interpreters in Nenets, Khanty and Selkoup languages should be reflected into this program.
