The icebreaker «Yamal» assisted in work of the high-latitudinal arctic expedition

The nuclear-powered icebreaker «Yamal» of Rosatomflot fulfilled ice piloting of the scientific and research ship «Akademik Fyodorov» during 48 days.
The expedition was busy with collecting of geophysical data on oil and gas bearing capacity of the Russian continental shelf beyond the 200-mile zone. The work was conducted within the state contract concluded between the company «Marine Arctic Geological Expedition» and the department on subsoil use on the continental shelf and the World Ocean at the Federal agency on subsoil use.
According to the words of the director general of «MAGE» Gennady Kazanin, owing to competent actions and high professionalism of the captain and the whole crew of the icebreaker «Yamal», high indexes were achieved within the period of conducting of field work within the high-latitudinal arctic expedition. The results of seismic prospecting can lead to extension of the continental shelf of Russia.
According to the words of the deputy director general on exploitation of fleet at the enterprise «Atomflot» Andrey Smirnov, the work was started in the district away to the west from Severnaya Zemlya and was conducted on the whole continental shelf of Russia. During this time the expedition also visited the North Pole. The results of the full-scale seismic prospecting will be generalized till the end of this year.
The area of the work made about 350 thousand square kilometers. The results of this seismic prospecting will become the basis for the Russian request to the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf at the United Nations Organization, as it is informed on the portal korabli.eu.
