Russian can receive the right for exploration and extraction of hydrocarbons on the territory between Chukotka, Murmansk and the North Pole with the total area more than 1 million square kilometers.
This information was given on the fourth international Arctic oil and gas week by the assistant of the director general on science of the Murmansk Company «Maritime Arctic Geological Expedition» Gennady Ivanov.
Scientists of MAGE in the end of September completed the unique high-latitudinal expedition: on the board of the ship «Akademik Fyodorov» at piloting by the icebreaker «Yamal» they passed through the North Pole and for the first time conducted full geophysical researches on this territory. As he tells, the expedition was prepared in record time: this May the scientists from Murmansk won the contest of the Federal agency on subsoil use, and already in June they started equipping ships for the trip. According to the words of Gennady Ivanov, the specialists of the company use innovative technologies – at help of special bottom stations they conduct 2D and 3D multiwave seismic survey.
The results of the researches will be known till the end of the year. The received data will be laid into the basis of the Russian request to the UN Commission on expanding borders of the continental shelf. As we should note, non-confirmed reserves of hydrocarbons on this territory make about 5 milliard tons.
