The special hydro-meteorological system, which will allow conducting observation over the Arctic, will be created in Russia, as the press-service of Roscosmos (the Russian Federal Space Agency) informs. The system will include two satellites: «Meteor-M» and «Electro-L». Testing of the second satellite is practically completed.
The launch is planned for 2015. The designers provided the new satellite with the unique scanner, which works simultaneously in all spectral ranges, what allows receiving qualitative images of the earth surface. The complex will provide RosHydroMet (the Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring of Russia) with the data for weather forecast, will conduct ecological control over environment and will control appearing of emergency situations. Besides, the launch of the satellites will allow observing over the state of ionosphere and magnetic field of the Earth, forecasting conditions for aviation flights.
As it is informed in Roscosmos, the necessity of organizing of the new space system is connected with active economic activity in the Arctic.
