The documentary film about Livs (Livs or Livonian people) will be demonstrated on the TV channel «Rossiya 1» in the broadcast of the state TV and radio company «Yamal». This is a video-work by the branch of the Finno-Ugric cultural center of Russia.
According to the information given in the informational center «Finnougoria» to a correspondent of IA «Sever-Press», this film with the lyrical title tells about history and modernity of Livonian people. As culture of Livs in big degree was assimilated with Latvian culture, the accent in this work was made on differences between these two ethno-cultural complexes.
The data are confirmed with comments of experts: scientists, representatives of public associations, figures of culture and art. 179 Livs were counted in Latvia in 2001, ten years later – 180.
Big interest of the audience will be aroused by legends and myths, which still exist in villages of Kurzeme – the northern coast of the western part of Latvia. Legends about the werewolf, about the Mother of the Sea, about the Blue cow and dead sailors are passed from mouth to mouth.
