The famous Russian documentarian, film director and researcher Oleg Aliyev visited the settlement Tazovskiy.
He dedicated more that 20 years of his life to study of ethnic minorities residing in remote parts of the planet. He is the author of 25 films and more than 70 publications.
Oleg Aliyev together with Tuareg people traveled around Sahara, with Mongol people – around desert Gobi, with Indians he participated in hunting in the district of the Amazon River, during long time he lived in Tibet, Cambodia and Nepal. Today Nenets people of Tazovskiy district are in the lens of his camera, as «Studio Fact» informs.
As he tells, for the first time he was in the settlement Tazovskiy in 1998, it changed much, now it is a town, there is something to compare. According to his words, as for tundra it seems that time stopped there, what is a big plus for a documentarian. He is a native Muscovite, went around the whole Earth. He tells that there are not many places, where rituals and traditions of ancestors are preserved and valued. In this regard, Yamal is an exception from the rule.
There are not many people in Russia, who kept arctic nomadic culture, as Nenets people do, as he underlines. For example, covering of a choum with reindeer pelts is used rarely. (The note: a choum is home of nomads in the North; it is similar to a tepee). Many people have this only in museums, as he notes.
A part of the film has been already made. During a week Oleg Aliyev and his assistant lived in tundra of Tazovskiy, in a nomadic camp of Nenets people. They hunted, caught reindeer and chopped firewood. The next trip will be to Gydan. It is planned for spring. The dream of Oleg Aliyev is to make a film not worse than on BBC. Technical potential is available, and what is the main thing, there is something to show: culture of Nenets people within the modern world enchants with its originality.
