The Russian center for exploration of the Arctic is organizing the meeting of scientists in Salekhard. Last year they conducted field researches on the funnel of gas emission in the district of Bovanenkovo field and on Beliy Island. This information was given to a correspondent of IA «Sever-Press» by the director of the center Vladimir Pushkaryov.
In particular, arrival of the deputy director of the Institute on Problems of Oil and Gas of the RAS Vasiliy Bogoyavlenskiy and the chief researcher of the Institute of the Earth Cryosphere at the Siberian branch of the RAS Marina Leibman is being expected in the capital of Yamal. During the field work the scientists collected many materials. Now they are busy with their processing. This is unnoticeable but very important part of the researches. The meeting of the experts will be conducted in the first half of the year. The specialists will share their conclusions and will make further plans, as Vladimir Pushkaryov explains.
The Russian center for exploration of the Arctic was created in Yamal last year. The center already organized three scientific expeditions to the funnel. The year-round scientific stationary center was formed on Beliy Island for monitoring of natural environment. In summer the stationary center became the base for researches being fulfilled by Russian scientists. Thus, engineers-meteorologists from the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute installed the automated meteorological station on the island. Within observations it registered temperature and relative humidity of air, direction and speed of wind, incoming and reflected short-wave and long-wave radiation each 5 seconds. Besides, a representative of Tyumen State University conducted integrated research of nature on Beliy Island, made a description of its landscapes and soils. An employee of Kazan Zoo Botanical Garden evaluated the number of polar bears on the island, collected biological samples for laboratory researches. The received data will be used to understand intra-population features of the Kara Sea and the Barents Sea population of the polar bear. This year, according to the information of Vladimir Pushkaryov, scientific researches in Beliy Island will be continued. Now the program, participants and financing are being defined in the Russian center for exploration of the Arctic.
