Ships for laying communication lines in the Arctic will be built in Russia for the first time

Two ships will be built in Tatarstan, on Zelenodolsk shipbuilding plant of A.M Gorky. It is planned to use them for laying and repairing of cable communication lines in the Arctic.
They were designed in Severodvinsk. Such ships are being built in Russia for the first time, earlier they were purchased abroad, as TASS informs.
The length of each ship makes 140 meters, the width – 19 meters. They can carry about 8 thousand tons of cargoes on board and work in autonomic mode about 50 days. One of them is called «Vyatka», another is «Volga».
Zelenodolsk Plant named after A.M. Gorky is one of the largest enterprises of Russia. This year it marks the 120th anniversary. During its history the plant built about 1500 sea and river ships of different classes and purposes.
Location in the center of Russia, on the Volga River, allows the enterprise to deliver ships to any regions of basins of the Black, Caspian, Baltic and Northern Seas along inland water routes.
