The exhibition «The Siege. The Memory» dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the 71st anniversary of lifting of the Siege of Leningrad will take place in the Museum-exhibition complex of Ivan Shemanovskiy in Salekhard.
According to the information given to a correspondent of IA «Sever-Press» in the informational and analytical office at the regional museum, exhibits that reflect the heroic deed of the city defenders will become the basis of the exposition. These are: mockups of small arms, also state awards of 1941-1944, personal belongings of soldiers of the Red Army, remnants of war equipment of the Wehrmacht, propaganda leaflets of the USSR and Germany, posters of the period of the siege, the collection of edged weapons of the USSR, Germany and other countries. The stands also will present the archival list of soldiers-residents of Yamal, who defended Leningrad. The organizers will present the model of the future obelisk dedicated to the lost countrymen.
The Siege of Leningrad lasted 872 days: from the 8th of September of 1941 to the 27th of January of 1944. The siege ring was broken on the 18th of January of 1943. 2 million and 887 thousand inhabitants were in the blockaded city in September of 1941. During the evacuation 1941-1943 about one million people were transported from Leningrad. It is estimated that from 800 thousand to 1 million and 500 thousand people died of starvation and bombardment.
