International experts evaluated influence of the project «Yamal LNG» on environment

The company «Yamal LNG» published the assessment of influence of its project on environment. It was conducted on international standards, as it is informed on the portal eco-media.ru.
According to the words of the head of the program on ecological policy of fuel and energy complex of the World Wildlife Fund Aleksey Knizhnikov, the long-waited publication of the assessment of influence on environment is a very important stage on the way of providing of proper level of ecological security at fulfillment of such complicated arctic project as «Yamal LNG». It allows involving all interested sides, including nature-protecting organizations, into work.
Evaluation of influence on environment is a component part of any industrial project and allows evaluating all ecological risks and impacts of forthcoming work and also suggesting measures of their minimization or compensation. According to assurance of ecologists, more scrupulously this procedure should be fulfilled at conducting of complicated projects, including oil and gas ones, in conditions of fragile nature of the Arctic. According to international standards, evaluation of influence on environment is fulfilled in complex: starting with production wells on land and finishing with ways of sea transportation of liquefied natural gas by tankers. Also cumulative impacts from other adjoining projects that influence on, for example, the Gulf of Ob, should be taken into consideration, according to these standards. At that, Russian legislation does not demand on this approach. This explanation was given by the head of the program on ecological legislation of the WWF Ekaterina Khmeleva.
The results of the assessment are accessible for study in Russian and English languages. Now the experts and the public should give their evaluation to it.
The project «Yamal LNG» foresees building of the plant on liquefying of natural gas on basis of the South-Tambey gas condensate field and the sea port for its transportation in Sabetta.
