Sovcomflot plans to increase the number of specialized high-technological ships because of growing needs of oil and gas projects on the Russian continental shelf. A pilot arctic gas carrier of ice class is being built now by the order of Sovcomflot for the project «Yamal LNG», as the press-service of the company informs.
Technical characteristics and unique capacity of the ship, which can be compared to capacity of a nuclear-powered icebreaker, will allow transporting cargoes on the Northern Sea Route without icebreaker piloting. Launch of the ship to exploitation is planned for next June. Another series of unique arctic tankers of ice class with deadweight 42 thousand tons is being built for Novoportovskoye oil, gas, condensate field in Yamal. Delivery is also planned for next year.
As the deputy director general of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping Pavel Shikhov notes, multilateral extension of cooperation with the group of companies Sovcomflot, especially on the program of building of new ships, is one of priority directions of work of the Register. These ships embody the newest achievements in the sphere of shipbuilding.
Last year 10 ships of Sovcomflot were passed to the class of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping, the total number of ships in the company being under technical supervision of the Register reached the number of 40. Among them there are ultra-modern gas carriers of LNG, multifunctional icebreaking ships for supply of production platforms, oil tankers, chemical carriers and tugboats.
