The reactor shell for the Russian icebreaker «Arktika» is being assembled in the Moscow area

Assemblage of the reactor shell for the Russian icebreaker «Arktika» was started on the machine-building plant «ZiO – Podolsk». Welded connection of its elements is being conducted with use of special technology elaborated by specialists of the enterprise, there are no analogous in Russia, as RIA «Novosti» informs.
As we should remind, the universal nuclear-powered icebreaker of a new generation «Arktika», which is being built now, will become the biggest and the most powerful in the world. Its length will make more than 173 meters, the width – 34 meters, the deadweight – more than 33 thousand tons. A reactor unit RITM-200 with two reactors of heating power 175 megawatt each will be assembled on the ship. Building of the icebreaker «Arktika» is being conducted on the Baltic Shipyard – Shipbuilding on the contract with Rosatom. It is planned to complete it in December of 2017.
