Employees of the department of new materials at Tomsk state university together with their colleagues from the Russian academy of sciences are creating a new kind of flexible solar batteries, which will be able to generate energy even in cloudy weather, what is important for climate of Siberia and the Arctic.
Use of Grätzel cells is a specific feature of the batteries. It will make them lighter and cheaper than silicon analogues. Oxide materials and their compositions, which can be applied on glass, fabric, metal and polymeric materials, including flexible ones, serve as the basis.
It is possible to roll up such solar batteries and to take to a hike or an expedition. Another prospective variant is to create fabric having abilities to generate heat from solar light, what can be used at work in the North in severe climate conditions, as Interfax presents the words of the head of the laboratory of Tomsk State University Lyudmila Borilo.
