Within the briefing in Salekhard the vice-governor of Yamal Irina Sokolova was asked a question about necessity to review measures of social support of indigenous population because of active development of the arctic territory.
The meeting of the vice-governor with journalists took place in the interval of the sitting of the presidium of the All-Russian public movement «The Association of Finno-Ugric peoples of the Russian Federation».
As Irina Sokolova underlines, sustainable development of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North, preservation of their unique traditions and culture in conditions of innovative development of the region stay basic principles of policy of the governor of Yamal. She reminds that 42 thousand representatives of the indigenous ethnic minorities of the North reside in Yamal. One third part of this number conducts nomadic way of life. At that, within Russian and international forums the measures of social support being rendered to indigenous population were recognized ones of the best practices in the country and in the world. 22 adopted laws working in the region, 330 legal acts directed to observation of rights and protection of indigenous peoples of the North assist to this work.
The vice-governor presented several examples. Thus, the law about health protection foresees free providing of nomads with medicaments and out-of-turn rendering of medical help. The region also tries to give housing to representatives of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North. Last year 352 such families received apartments, including at the expenses of funds foreseen in the federal targeted program «Sustainable development of rural territories till 2020». Big attention is paid to the newest educational processes. For example, the project «Nomadic school» is developed. 80 communities that received state support in the size of 9 million rubles last year work in the region as platforms for job placement of indigenous inhabitants.
As Irina Sokolova says, in conditions of innovative development of the region the government perfects measures and methods of support of indigenous peoples of the North, and it gives obvious results. During the latest 10 years their number in Yamal two times increased, and birth rate grew on 11 percent. Methods will be perfected further, but the main principle will stay the same – sustainable development of indigenous peoples.
