Sportspeople of Yamal will participate in the Arctic Winter Games 2016 in Greenland

The director of the department of physical culture and sport of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Alexander Eirikh told journalists about participation of sportspersons of Yamal in the Arctic Winter Games of 2016 in Greenland. Recently he has participated in the conference of the international committee of the games in the town Nuuk (Greenland).
The capital of Greenland Nuuk, where the games will take place, is a small town with population 15 thousand people and corresponding infrastructure. 81 people, 54 of who are sportspeople, will go to Greenland from Yamal in March of 2016. Unfortunately, ice arenas are absent in Nuuk. Therefore, curling, figure skating and speed skating were excluded from the program of the competitions. The sportspeople of Yamal will participate in the arctic all-round, running in snowshoes, biathlon on ski and in snowshoes, ski race and table-tennis.
As Alexander Eirikh says, climate in Greenland is severe. Frosts up to 18C degrees below zero are possible in March, when the games will be conducted. Difference in time makes 8 hours. All these factors will be taken to consideration at choosing of a training program and sports outfit for the sportspeople.
9 teams from 7 countries of the arctic region will meet in the Arctic Winter Games 2016. Exclusively the team of Yamal has represented Russia since 2004, what is the matter of pride for inhabitants of Yamal. The following sportspeople were included in the number of the participants of the games: Albina Akhatova, Yulia Makarova, Anna Sorokina, Larisa Kuznetsova (Kuklina), Elena Badanina, Christina Ilchenko, Diana Yakimets and Rodion Taligin. Besides, participation in the competitions and their organization give inhabitants of the Arctic the opportunity to learn more about culture and way of life of each other, to adjust good-neighbor relations.
As Alexander Eirikh notes, during the visit the representatives of Yamal offered the organizational committee of the Arctic Winter Games to scrutinize the request of Yamal for conducting of future competitions and received the positive answer. Thus, in coming 6 or 8 years Yamal will welcome participants of the games on its land, as he informs.
