The series of LNG-carriers with cargo membrane tanks with capacity 170 thousand cubic meters of «Veliky Novgorod» type were finished in South Korea under technical observation of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS).
Building of the new series of arctic shuttle oil tankers with the deadweight about 42 thousand tons and also the series of innovative gas carriers of high arctic class for the Russian project «Yamal LNG» was started. The gas carriers will be equipped with three Azipod propulsion units with the total capacity 45 megawatt, what can be compared to capacity of a nuclear-powered icebreaker. The ships can work at temperatures up to 50C degrees below zero and independently overcome ice with the thickness up to 2.1 meters, as it is informed on the portal korabli.eu.
Competences of RS on ships of ice navigation are required in different projects – from icebreakers and large-tonnage ships for oil and gas transportation on the Northern Sea Route to floating regasification units. RS will present services on all key directions of activity of the organization on the stand of the 25th international exhibition «Nor-Shipping», which will take place from the second to the fifth of June in Oslo, Norway. The best specialists of marine branch from more than 50 countries will become its participants.
Special attention in the exposition will be paid to participation of RS in innovative projects being fulfilled on the shelf of the Arctic, in designing, building and exploiting of high-technological ships and sea constructions for work in severe conditions of arctic and freezing seas. Among them there are powerful icebreakers, large-tonnage arctic tankers for transportation of oil and gas on the Northern Sea Route, complicated marine engineering constructions for extraction of hydrocarbons and also multifunctional ships to provide work of oil and gas extracting platforms.
