Building of a Russian tanker for work in the Gulf of Ob was started in Korea

The ceremony dedicated to laying down a keel of the lead ship for the series of shuttle tankers of high ice class took place in a shipbuilding yard in Korea. As the press service of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping informs, 6 vessels of the project «42K Arctic Shuttle Tanker» will be built by the request of the group of companies «Sovcomflot».
All the tankers are purposed for work in high latitudes at the temperature up to 45C degrees below zero and in conditions of year-round navigation. They will be busy with transportation of crude oil from the district of the Gulf of Ob.
Completion of building and delivery of the lead ship to the customer is planned for the end of June of 2016. Completion of building of the whole series is planned for 2017. The new arctic tanker will have the length 248 meters, the width – 34 meters, the height of a board – 15 meters. The calculated draft of the vessel is 9.5 meters, the deadweight – 42 thousand tons.
Now the entire series of arctic gas carriers of LNG are being built in South Korea within fulfillment of the full-scale Russian project «Yamal LNG» on the arctic shelf on production of liquefied natural gas. They will be able to work at the temperature about 50C degrees below zero and will be able independently to overcome ices with the thickness about 2.1 meters.
