A support icebreaker for Yamal will be laid in Vyborg Shipyard

The ceremony dedicated to laying the lead support icebreaker will take place in Vyborg Shipyard. Building of the support vessel is ordered by the company «Gazprom Neft Novy Port».
Cutting of metal for the lead ship was started this August. In total two ships will be built in the series.
The icebreakers will work on the arctic terminal of Novoportovskoye field situated in the Gulf of Ob, the Yamal peninsula. Basic tasks of the icebreakers include: icebreaker support of tankers, help at conducting of mooring and loading operations, rescuing operations, towing of ships, fire fighting, participation in operations on liquidation of oil spills. The ships also should have the opportunity of uninterrupted work at the temperatures up to 50C degrees of frost. According to the contract, the icebreakers will be delivered to the customer till 2018.
Vyborg Shipyard is one of the largest ship-building enterprises situated in the north-western region of Russia. As it is informed on the website 47news.ru, since the moment of foundation in 1948 the shipyard has built 210 ships of different purpose, 9 marine drilling platforms and 105 modules of upper constructions of platforms for development of oil and gas fields.
