Artur Chilingarov: Development of the Arctic should be of concern of the whole country

Development of potential of northern territories is an important state task. It was underlined by the president of the association of polar explorers, the special presidential envoy on international cooperation in the Arctic and Antarctica Artur Chilingarov on the international forum «The Arctic: present and future» in Saint Petersburg.

The famous polar explorer underlines that points of growth in the north are becoming centers of attracting of different interests and other regions. Interregional and international cooperation can become one of main drivers of development of the Arctic.
Arctic regions should not be scrutinized separately from the whole country. From history of researches and exploration of the Russian North it is known what contribution was made by scientific and industrial enterprises of central areas of Russia, what important role was played by southern regions. «And now, meeting challenges of development of the Arctic zone, we understand that effective decisions are impossible without interregional cooperation», as Artur Chilingarov declares.
He reminds about the results of the analogous forum that took place last year: the organizers received suggestions to the final resolution from 26 regions. It means that each of them sees an own role in the arctic agenda, as the special envoy notes.
