Valentina Matviyenko: The project of construction of the Northern Latitudinal Railway will be supported by the Federation Council

It is necessary to update and adapt the state program of development of the Arctic to modern conditions.

It was declared by the chairperson of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko within the briefing in Salekhard. She promised that the project on construction of the Northern Latitudinal Railway would receive support of the Federation Council.

Development of the Arctic is a strategic direction for Russia. Today development of transport infrastructure, without which there is no effective development of the Arctic, is the main thing. Policy of the regional authorities aimed at development of infrastructure projects is absolutely correct. «I know how many efforts the governor of Yamal Dmitriy Kobylkin makes to convince everyone in necessity of construction of the Northern Latitudinal Railway. This project is extremely necessary. The President of Russia supports it. We will seek federal support for this project», as Valentina Matviyenko said.
According to her words, the project should be fulfilled on conditions of governmental-private partnership. If to take into consideration strategic significance of the Northern Latitudinal Railway, the state should take expenses on building of the bridge across the Ob River, private partners should take the rest part of work. It is known that there are investors, who are ready to invest about 200 milliard rubles to the project.
