Ice sculptures by craftspeople from Yamal will decorate the town Surgut

The festival of ice sculptures is taking place in Surgut, Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug. According to the tradition it will take place in the historical and cultural center «Old Surgut». All the works are united with the theme «Ice echo of Hellados». Pictures of Greek mythology are being created by craftspeople from Surgut, Salekhard, Noyabrsk, Sterlitamak, Izhevsk and Pokachi.

The contest among the works will be conducted for the first time during 15 years of history of the festival.
Ice is easily framed, but melts quickly. Work with ice has its own specifics: it is processed almost as much as a diamond. Therefore, on such festivals craftspeople share their professional secrets with each other. The craftsman from Salekhard Rodion Bekshenev tells that ice is one of materials, where an artist can show himself or herself, in other words, own skills and opportunities, during very short time. Ten days pass and here is a sculpture, as he says.
