During a year the amount of transportations on the Northern Sea Route increased

During 11 months the amount of transportations on the Northern Sea Route 1.6 times grew in comparison to analogous period of last year – up to 5 million and 152 thousand tons. At that, the amount of transit transportations decreased up to 39 thousand tons in comparison to 274 thousand tons in 2014 and 1 million and 176 thousand tons in 2013.
During a year the administration of the Northern Sea Route gave about 700 permissions for passage on the Northern Sea Route, including 100 permissions to ships under foreign flags. This information was given on the fifth international forum «The Arctic: Present and Future» by Yuriy Kostin, the deputy chief of Rosmorrechflot (the Federal Agency for Marine and River Transport).
The icebreaking fleet is a necessary condition in providing of safety of navigation in ice situation, as the agency «PortNews» informs. At the present time 8 linear icebreakers are attracted to work on water areas of the Northern Sea Route. Four of them are nuclear-powered (50 Let Pobedy, Yamal, Taymyr, Vaygach) and four diesel-electric (Admiral Makarov, Krasin, Kapitan Khlebnikov, Kapitan Dranitsyn).
