One more stationary center for scientific researches will be set on the Gydan peninsula

Next spring on the Gydan peninsula it is planned to set one more stationary center for scientific researches.
This information was given by the director of the department on science and innovations Aleksey Titovskiy on the press-conference in Salekhard. As he tells, a monitoring platform was located in soviet time between the settlements Antipayuta and Gyda, in the district of Lake Parisento, where permafrost wells are situated. Scientists of the Institute of the Arctic and Antarctic and other scientific establishments worked there. As Aleksey Titovskiy explains that during some time the stationary center will not be a specialized establishment, but it will serve as a place for basing, a shelter from bad weather.
According to the words of the director of the department, study of the Gydan peninsula is one of priority projects of scientists of Yamal for the coming prospect. The governor of Yamal set the task for science – to go ahead of industrial development, as Aleksey Titovskiy notes. Therefore, Gydan is the territory, where researches should be conducted, etalon indexes should be registered in order it will be possible to conduct comparisons at development of its extractive fields. Together with scientists of Tyumen State University the specialists of Yamal elaborated the road map on study of the peninsula, on which ecologists, biologists, ornithologists will work during the coming 5 years, as he says.
As Aleksey Titovskiy informs that in February the scientists of Yamal are waiting for their colleagues from the University of Helsinki, who also research changes of permafrost and climate. Together they will scrutinize the opportunity of inclusion of stationary centers, which exist or will appear in Yamal, into the general observation network. Its work is coordinated by scientists of the University of Helsinki.
The director of the department reminds that year in Yamal the stationary center has worked since last on Beliy Island but not during the whole year round yet. There are conditions for simultaneous stay of 10-12 scientists, reserves of products and fuel. The base Yerkuta was modernized together with colleagues from Ural institute of plants and animals. Small modules were placed there. The opportunity to equip an object in the district of Bovanenkovo field after setting of the stationary center on the Gydan peninsula is being discussed.
