The expedition by snowmobiles went from Yekaterinburg. Its participants are laying the route «Sever» (North).
The road will connect Yekaterinburg and the Arctic Ocean in winter. Its length will make 2500 kilometers. The route will go on the territory of three regions – Sverdlovsk Oblast, Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug (Yugra) and Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
According to the words of the author of the project, the head of «Klub Iskatelei Priklyucheniy» («The club of adventure seekers», Yekaterinburg) Konstantin Kuznetsov, the expedition will take place in two stages. Within the first the travelers plan to reach the settlement Pripolyarniy (Yugra) till the 24th of January. 10 days plus 4 additional days in the case of bad weather, breakdowns or other unforeseen circumstances are planned for the route from Yekaterinburg. The second stage will be started from Pripolyarniy on the 24th of March, closer to spring, when the length of daytime increases. The participants of the expedition will take a course to Lake Varchato (Yamal). On the territory of the region they will move, trying to be closer to the mountain part. They will go through Salekhard, Labytnangi, and till the 8th of April they plan to reach the coast of the Arctic Ocean.
According to the words of Konstantin Kuznetsov, the second stage will be more difficult. They have never been farther than Saranpaul (Yugra). The trip in Yamal will take place for the first time. On the first stage only one snowmobile takes cargo, small reserve of gasoline and food products, as there are opportunities to make stops at nights and refuel snowmobiles along the route. On the second stage, when they will go along Yamal, each snowmobile will have a cargo sledge, which will carry complete reserve of gasoline and food products per two weeks.
The participants of the expedition hope that the local authorities of Yamal will render help and assistance in such wonderful interregional project. They have many questions, how to go along Yamal, how to refuel machines, how to avoid breach of century traditions of indigenous peoples, to behave in order to be welcomed friendly, as the author of the project notes. According to his words, the expedition includes 7 people – experienced travelers, who have driven snowmobiles for many years. They are ready to difficulties, which can appear on their way. First of all, it touches upon frosts, unpredictability of the road and big snow coverage.
More than 3 years were spent for preparation. The route was studied in little parts. As Konstantin Kuznetsov says, they would like that the expedition would become the yearly activity and would be useful to local inhabitants. They use the routes laid by the expeditions. If someone needs help, the travelers render all possible assistance. According to his words, the task of the project is to research potential of snowmobile tourism along the Urals massif from the south to the north. In the future it is planned to organize places for overnight stops and refueling of snowmobiles along the route «Sever» (North).
