Transportations on the Northern Sea Route grew on 45 percent

The total amount of transportations on the Northern Sea Route during January-December of last year made 5 million and 392 thousand tons, what is on 45.4% more than in 2014.
Transportation of general cargoes 1.6 times grew and achieved more than 3 million and 982 thousand tons, coal –1.5 times increased up to 355 thousand and 900 tons. The amount of transportations of oil and petroleum products increased on 13.5% — 859 thousand and 500 tons. Transportations of ore and gas condensate decreased on 1.3% and 8.2% and made 79 thousand and 800 tons and 144 thousand and 400 tons correspondingly.
By the results of the previous year the administration of the Northern Sea Route gave 715 permissions for navigation on water areas of the Northern Sea Route, including 125 permissions to ships under foreign flags.
Transit transportations on the Northern Sea Route last year decreased, in total 39 thousand and 600 tons were transported. It is 6.9 times less than the level of 2014. In the direction West-East 19 thousand tons were transported, backward – 20 thousand and 600 tons. 18 transit trips, including for 8 ships under foreign flags, were conducted in 2015. For comparison, 23 transit trips were fulfilled in 2014, including for 6 ships under foreign flags, as it is informed on the portal portnews.ru.
In 2015 safety of navigation on icebreaker support of ships on water areas of the Northern Sea Route was provided by diesel icebreakers and the nuclear-powered icebreakers “Vaygach”, “Yamal” and “Taymyr”. The average duration of a trip on the Northern Sea Route made 10.6 days.
The Northern Sea Route is the shortest sea route between the European part of Russia and the Far East. The Northern Sea Route goes on seas of the Arctic Ocean, its length from Kara Gates to Cape Dezhnev makes about 2500 sea miles. There are six sea ports on water areas of the Northern Sea Route. In addition to sea ports, cargo operations were fulfilled on 19 equipped and non-equipped points on the coast and on islands.
