NOVATEK is ready to invite Japanese partners to the project “Arctic LNG”. This information was given by Denis Khramov within the forum “Trade and Industrial Dialogue: Russia – Japan”.
As he says, “Arctic LNG”, the second project of NOVATEK on export of liquefied natural gas. It is planned to start up the first project – “Yamal LNG” next year. According to the words of Denis Khramov, both objects should give 33 million tons of liquefied gas by 2025, in other words 16 million and 500 thousand tons each. These amounts will make up to 7% of the world market.
Seismic work is being conducted on “Arctic LNG”. Resource base is being studied. Its probable reserves are evaluated in 1 trillion and 500 milliard cubic meters of gas. Denis Khramov is sure that, by the results of geological prospecting, the reserves will grow. Resource potential makes 2 trillion cubic meters. The beginning of commercial production of liquefied gas is planned for 2023.
Japan refused nuclear energy after the catastrophe on “Fukushima -1” and can become interested in participation in the project on production of liquefied gas. The head of the analytic department of the investment company “Golden Hills – Kapital AM” Mikhail Krylov supposes that Japan will not have control in “Arctic LNG”. As the expert notes, Japanese funds of investments rarely invest more than 400 million dollars to one direction. However, he does not exclude that Japan can make an exclusion for NOVATEK, as it is very interested in LNG. Now Japan purchases Russian liquefied gas from the plant on Sakhalin, as gazeta.ru informs.
