The participants of the expedition “Attraction of the Arctic – Yamal Ring” visited Salekhard. The expedition went by cars on the route of the Great Northern Expedition.
The extreme travelers received passes necessary for their travel and were registered in the rescue organization “Yamalspas”. They visited the Museum-exhibition complex of Ivan Shemanovskiy, saw the monument to the mammoth, the monument “66th parallel”, the monument dedicated to the 70-s, the memorial dedicated to builders of the 501st railway. The travelers continued their way to the north. Soon they will reach the settlement Seyakha, Yamalskiy district, as it is informed on the website arctic-info.ru.
The expedition “Attraction of the Arctic – Yamal Ring” started in Moscow on the 21st of February. “Attraction of the Arctic” is a motor-car project that exists during 5 years. The participants of the project gradually, year by year, study routes and history of groups of the Great Northern Expedition. By cars they search for accesses to the coast of northern seas.
This year the participants went on the route of Dvinsko-Obskiy group of the Great Northern Expedition that had taken place under the leadership of the Russian explorer Stepan Malygin. Along the eastern coast of Yamal they are planning to reach Malygin Strait. Later on drifting ice they are intending to reach Beliy Island, to cross the polar tundra and to reach the marine hydro-meteorological station of Popov. In the result the extreme travelers will overcome more than 8 thousand kilometers along frozen rivers, lakes, sea ice and tundra of Yamal.
