The French tourists Henry and Martina Ferreri visited Yamal. They travel around the world during 20 years and have visited Russia for the fourth time.
In order to get acquainted to everyday life of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North Henry and Martina lived during a week in a Nenets family in Nadymskiy district. They traveled with the hosts and their reindeer, dismantled and set a choum (national dwelling of nomads, similar to a tepee).
As Martina tells to a correspondent of IA “Sever-Press”, they were welcomed kindly. They cooked food together with the hosts, played with their children and watched how they take care of animals. For the first time she tasted “stroganina” (a national dish, slices of frozen fish or meat served cold).
As the tourists note they arrived to Yamal in winter purposefully to feel frosts, but they were disappointed with the weather, though they saw Aurora Borealis – northern lights. Henry says that he has never seen such beautiful sky.
In their answer to the question about the aim of their arrival Henry and Martina answer that they are interested in life of nomadic population and modern state of regions. They collect materials for the album about culture of nomadic peoples. In France many people are interested in culture of indigenous peoples of the North. Traditions and everyday life of nomadic population are saved well in Yamal, as Martina underlines.
During their travel around Yamal the French travelers shot video-materials. They will make a documentary film about culture of indigenous peoples of the North. Also they plan to present the photo-album on European photo-exhibitions.
