The next ecological expedition of 8 people will go to Beliy Island on the 24th of March.
The specialists will prepare everything necessary for the volunteers, who will go to work on cleaning of the island from metal scraps in summer: they will set accommodation portable cabins, will deliver fuel, building materials, food products and water. This information was given by the director of the Russian center for exploration of the Arctic Vladimir Pushkaryov on the press-conference to the news agency “Sever-Press”.
In August 20 young volunteers will arrive to Beliy Island. The ecological expedition will include representatives of the company “LUKOIL”, Russian compatriots from abroad and participants of the youth forum “UTRO”. This year the participants of the expedition plan to remove 400 tons of metal scraps from the island.
As he notes, basic amounts of work on cleaning of the territory were fulfilled. Last year the participants of the ecological expedition and the volunteers cleaned the territory of the Polar marine hydro-meteorological station of Popov and the military unit.
Beliy Island is situated in the Kara Sea. It is the northernmost point of the region and divided from the Yamal peninsula with Malygin Strait. 50 hectares of lands were cleaned on the island, about 800 tons of metal scraps were collected and more than 300 were removed from the island during 4 years. It is planned to complete the work on Beliy Island this year.
