The educational and scientific permanent study area will start working in Nadymskiy district. It was organized with joint efforts of Tyumen State University, the Institute of the Earth Cryosphere of the Siberian branch of the RAS and the department on science and innovations of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
Two accommodation modules were delivered there in summer. It is planned to complete the station with 10 mobile constructions: accommodation and office modules, classrooms, a laboratory, a canteen and a sauna.
The station will have the international status. Applications for conducting of researches and organizing of summer international expeditions and student ecological and geographical schools were received from Germany and Mexico. This information was given by the director of the Research Institute of Ecology and Rational Use of Natural Resources at the Tyumen State University, doctor of biological sciences, the honored ecologist of Russia Andrey Soromotin.
As the press-service of the governor of Yamal informs, now scientists from Tyumen State University and the Institute of the Earth Cryosphere of the SB, RAS are processing the results of complex field researches conducted in July-August of 2016 in the district of Nadym. In the educational and scientific permanent study area specialists, postgraduates and students of geomorphology, soil scientists, zoologists and dendrochronology scientists studied natural conditions of the area near Nadym.
The participants of the expedition conducted researches with description of sections of soil cover and Upper Quaternary deposits. The researches allow studying special aspects of structure and conditions of soils forming. The specialists started studying hydrological and hydro-chemical aspects of nearby lakes. They also continued researches on study of an interesting natural phenomenon that had been started during the previous years – sandy “thickening” that can be found on the territory of Nadymskiy district, on the Gydan peninsula, in Yakutia and Canada. In 2016 this research was supported with the joint grant of the Russian Foundation of Fundamental Research and the government of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
Study of ecological system of an open sandy area revealed different species of live organisms adapted to severe conditions of “northern deserts” during the latest thousands years. In particular, a considerable number of ground beetles with brightly expressed night peak of activity. The scientists made geo-botanic descriptions of different sectors of the sandy area and took samples of wood. With help of an unmanned flying vehicle – a hexacopter equipped with a camera with high resolution they started studying of micro-relief of the territory, what will allow receiving 3D models and maps of considerable territories of the surface.
