A new wave of exploration of the Yamal Arctic without exaggeration can be called high technological and ecologically safe. This information was given by the governor of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Dmitriy Kobylkin in the annual message on state of affairs and prospects of development of the region.
As the head of the region notes, decrease in production wastes and harmful emissions to the atmosphere is registered in centers of oil and gas extraction. As he says, polar birds make nests and polar foxes live freely near industrial objects in Sabetta. Gyrfalcons from the Red Book made nests on bridges of the railroad line to Bovanenkovo. These are unique examples for the arctic world.
Dmitriy Kobylkin is sure that objectively such tendency is a result of colossal investments, use of the newest elaborations and consideration of natural and social specifics of the territory. The first results of replenishment of biological resources in water reservoirs of Yamal were received this year: more than 2 million and 500 thousand fingerlings of muksun (the whitefish) were released to water areas of the Ob River. They were grown up on the own fish-breeding plant. This has never happened in the Arctic. This plant on the bank of the Sob River is the most powerful in Russia on reproduction of the whitefish, as he underlines. The governor reminds that its construction became possible owing to joint work of the government of Yamal and the company “NOVATEK”.
The region has much work ahead on liquidation of accumulated damage and filling of gaps in the federal legislation. This theme was discussed on the meeting with the Prosecutor General of Russia Yuriy Chaika and on the expert council with subsoil users. As Dmitriy Kobylkin says, today everyone understands responsibility and significance of ecological safety in the Arctic zone. It is important to transform this understanding into real actions.
