The sitting of the working group on sustainable development of the Arctic is taking place in the town Kotzebue, the USA. The event united representatives of 8 states – members of the Arctic Council and 6 organizations of indigenous peoples of the Arctic.
A member of the Public Chamber of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Alexander Yevay represents interests of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North of the Yamal Arctic and Russia under the instruction of the Federal Agency on affairs of nationalities of the Russian Federation.
The sitting of the working group includes his presentation of the regional project “Nomadic School”, in which he is acquainting the participants of the sitting with specifics of organizing of education for children from indigenous ethnic minorities of the North in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, as the press-service of the governor of Yamal informs.
The department of international and external economic relations of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug is the organizer of the trip and participation of the representative of Yamal in the sitting of the working group.
The Arctic Council is an intergovernmental high-level forum for development of cooperation among Arctic states, coordination of their actions in favor of sustainable development of the region, environmental protection, preservation of culture, traditions and languages of indigenous peoples of the North.
The working group on sustainable development in the Arctic is a subsidiary body of the Arctic Council. It is responsible for advancement of sustainable development. It includes environmental protection and strengthening of economy, culture and health care of indigenous peoples and Arctic communities.
