On the 15th of February in the morning the first group of participants of the snowmobile expedition under the leadership of a member of Yamal regional branch of the Russian geographical society Igor Znamenskiy went from Tarko-Salye.
Samburg is the first point of the arctic route. The travelers sent a part of equipment and foodstuff to the settlement earlier by motor transport. From Samburg they will go to Antipayuta and further to Seyakha already without motorcar accompanying.
According to the information of Igor Znamenskiy, other several people will join to the basic group in Seyakha. Further the travelers will go through Gyda to the meteorological station Sop-Karga, where the group will receive participants from Norilsk and in full staff will go to Dikson Island and further.
The amateurs of arctic extreme travelling will pass Cape Sterligov, the Scott Hansen Islands, the Nordenskjold Archipelago, Nansen Island and Tyrtov Island. The Firnley Islands situated in the eastern part of the Kara Sea in 30 kilometers from the continental part are the final point of the travel. Within the expedition the participants will conduct photo and video survey of unique geographical objects, arctic flora and fauna. Materials collected within the expedition will be presented to the public in the form of exhibitions, lectures and video-films. The tasks of the group include observation over natural and weather phenomena in conditions of high latitudes and also radio communication sessions in amateur radio broadcasting from each island, as the board of informational and analytical researches and public relations at the administration of Purovskiy district informs.
The whole expedition, on calculations of its participants, will last one month and a half. It is possible to follow the route in the online mode on the website of the Yamal branch of the Russian geographical society http://yanaorgo.ru/. Beside representatives from Yamal, the group includes radio amateurs from Tyumen, Norilsk, Petropavlovsk-Kamchtsky, Moscow and Perlesreut (Germany).
As we should remind, the first part of the expedition from the cycle “Legends of the Arctic” was dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the legendary arctic navigation of the crew of Fridtjof Nansen on the ship “Fram” in 1893 – 1896. The second part of the expedition – 2017 is planned for September. The travelers will go by ship to the farthest north-western part of Russia – Victoria Island within the international radio amatuer program “Islands on the air”. In Russia “Islands on the air” became popular owing to activity of the club “Russian Robinson Club”. Igor Znamenskiy, a radio amateur with great experience, is its active participant.
Znamenskiy and his supporters have tens of extreme expeditions behind their shoulders. He organized radio broadcasting from different points of the planet. Ones of the brightest and the most extreme expeditions are: the Verkhne-Tazovskiy Nature Reserve, Mangazeya, islands of the Gulf of Ob, Litke Island and Shokalsky Island and also Dobrzhansky Island on Kamchatka.
