A wind electric power plant for the scientific and research station will be delivered to Beliy Island

The next ecological expedition will go to Beliy Island on the 28th of February. Specialists of the Russian center for exploration of the Arctic will prepare everything necessary for volunteers and scientists, who will arrive in summer to work on the island. The specialists will bring fuel, building materials, food products and other cargoes and also a wind power electric plant for the scientific and research station. This information was given to a correspondent of IA “Sever-press” in the department on science and innovations of Yamal.
The basic amount of work on cleaning of the territory was completed. Last year the participants of the ecological expedition and the volunteers cleaned the territory of the Polar marine hydro-meteorological station of Popov and the military unit. According to the words of Aleksey Titovskiy, there are some small areas left, the volunteers will work there. They will complete cleaning of the territory of the meteorological station and the coastline and also remote sectors of geological prospecting. Reclamation work with attracting of corresponding specialists will be organized on the cleaned territory.
Beliy Island is situated in the Kara Sea and is the northernmost point of the region; it is separated from the Yamal peninsula with Malygin Strait. 50 hectares of land were cleaned, about 800 tonnes of metal scrap were collected, more than 300 tonnes were removed from the territory during 4 years. During these years more than 100 people, including employees of the Russian center for exploration of the Arctic and volunteers from different Russian regions and other countries, visited the island and made their contribution to cleaning of the island. It is planned to complete the work on Beliy Island this year.
