A linguist from Japan became “the nice guy” among Nenets young people

On the 2nd of March the guest from Japan, a linguist Mr. Ryo Matsumoto met with activists of the youth branch of the Association of indigenous peoples of the North “Yamal for descendants”. In addition to traditional souvenirs, the young people of Yamal presented him with a gift, which became particularly valuable for the researcher of Nenets language.
For the guest from the distant land they collected and prepared expressions characteristic for youth of indigenous peoples of the North. “You will not find these words in any dictionary and will never hear them by chance”, as the young people said. – “Now You will become the nice guy in any Nenets company of the closest friends”.
By his first specialization Mister Ryo Matsumoto is a lawyer. In 2001 he entered Kyoto University in order to study linguistics, as he was interested in grammar of foreign languages. He conducted researches and found some similarity in grammar of Japanese and Nenets languages in a part of dividing into living and non-living objects. In his opinion, such phenomenon can partially speak about common views on the world and surrounding reality among Japanese and Nenets people.
In the evening Mr. Ryo Matsumoto met with the youth of indigenous peoples in the narrower circle on the tea party. He will spend several days in Yamal. The interesting program was prepared for him. By the results of the visit, Mister Ryo Matsumoto plans to write a textbook and a dictionary of Nenets language in Japanese language for all people in his country, who wish to study it.
