Reindeer herders from Samburg will arrive to Noviy Urengoy to the Holiday of peoples of the North

The Holiday of peoples of the North will take place in Noviy Urengoy on the 18th and the 19th of March for the 16th time. Beside town-dwellers, families of reindeer herders from Samburg tundra will become the participants of the holiday activities.

Starting from 2002, they bring their choums (national dwelling, similar to a tepee), set them near the lake, cook traditional Nenets dishes and lay the table, organize riding reindeer teams. The town authorities assist the tundra people to deliver their choums, reindeer, utensils, provide the guests with accommodation and nutrition, prepare presents for children and the participants of the competitions on national kinds of sport.
It is a good tradition to bring schoolchildren from Noviy Urengoy, who prepare presents with sweets for their coevals, to reindeer herding brigades. The tundra people invite their guests into the choum and cook national dishes for them. They conduct games in the open air for children. Such visits are organized every year. Children receive good impressions, as the informational and analytical board at the administration of Noviy Urengoy informs.
The counselor of the head of the town Noviy Urengoy Alexander Ryabov notes that such interaction with reindeer herders residing and traveling near Noviy Urengoy will be continued obligatorily. It is necessary to know and to respect the way of life, culture and traditions of people residing in the Yamal North during many centuries. It needs to teach children. As he underlines, friendly relations of different people residing in Yamal, careful attitude to nature are the basis of successful and sustainable development of the territory.
