The presentation of the cookbook of Khanty people took place in Salekhard

The presentation of the book by Zinaida Longortova “U rybnoy reki, na olenyey zemle” (“Near the river with fish, on the land of reindeer”) took place in the regional National library. The edition includes more than 100 recipes of traditional cuisine of Khanty people with description of everyday rituals and traditions.

The book contains unique ancient dishes, and not any person can cook them, for example pancakes of bird cherry flour. The book is structured according to the seasons of the year, on the basis of which Khanty people live.
As Zinaida Longortova says, the edition was published owing to the regional grant of the department of youth policy and tourism of Yamal. The author collected the materials for the book during almost 15 years. The book is illustrated with unique photographs from the personal archive of the writer and also her friends.
Beside the culinary recipes, the book includes fairy tales, poems and proverbs. Thus, the section “Stroganina” (Frozen fish) was presented with a poem with the same title by a poet Roman Rugin. In the opinion of the author of the book, nobody can tell better about frozen fish than the Khanty writer did.
As an old resident and an ethnographer Tatiana Gostyukhina says, the new book is not just a collection of culinary recipes but this is a travel to the mysterious world of ancestors.
