Reindeer husbandry of Yamal is coming to the new way of development. This information was given by the first deputy governor of Yamal Aleksey Sitnikov on the plenary session of the congress of reindeer herders in Yakutia.
As he says, after the summer events of 2016 it became clear — the era of extensive development of the branch by increasing in the number of animals came to the end.
The maximum possible number of reindeer that can be nourished on reindeer moss areas of Yamal today makes almost a half of the current number being pastured there. Thus, specialists are going to give the branch a new direction: in order nomads could gain the same and even bigger amount of money at smaller number of reindeer. Measures, including transfer to waste-free deep processing of products of reindeer husbandry, are being foreseen, as he notes.
Subsidies more than 1 milliard and 600 million rubles are allocated annually from the regional budget to agro-industrial complex of Yamal. This year the significant part of this amount — 782 million rubles – will be spent for development of reindeer husbandry. Increase in amounts of manufacturing of products by enterprises of all forms of property and also development of deep processing of products of reindeer husbandry in the region are ones of the basic issues. Today five high-tech processing complexes process venison in the region, as the press-service of the governor of Yamal informs. Owing to these objects it became possible twice to increase amounts of production of reindeer meat, including also due to active involvement of private enterprises of reindeer herders and national communities into the production process.
The fourth congress of reindeer herders of Russia is taking place in the capital of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)
As we should remind, the region is being represented by the director of the department of agro-industrial complex, trade and foodstuff Viktor Yugai, the chairperson of the Legislative Assembly of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Sergey Yamkin, the chairperson of the Russian Union of Reindeer Herders Dmitriy Khorolya, representatives of bodies of the power, heads and employees of leading reindeer-herding enterprises and communities of the arctic region and also private reindeer herders.
