Five hundred guests will arrive to the forum of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North to Salekhard

The forum “Russia. Indigenous ethnic minorities of the North, Siberia and the Far East” will take place in Salekhard on the 23rd-25th of March.

About 500 representatives from regions of residence of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North, Siberia and the Far East of Russia and guests from foreign countries will arrive to the capital of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The governor of Yamal Dmitriy Kobylkin will welcome his colleagues from Yakutia, Karelia, Khakasiya, Tyva, Sakhalin, Magadan, Kamchatka, Krasnoyarsk and Khabarovsk regions, Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug and Nenets Autonomous Okrug and other regions. Participation of the plenipotentiary envoy of the President of the Russian Federation in Ural Federal Okrug Igor Kholmanskikh and the governor of Tyumen Oblast Vladimir Yakushev is being expected. Invitations were also sent to the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Administration of Russia Magomedsalam Magomedov and the Head of the Federal agency for affairs of nationalities Igor Barinov, as the press-service of the governor of Yamal informs.
Besides, representatives of the Arctic Council Indigenous Peoples Secretariat, the Association of World Reindeer Herders, the International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry will arrive to Salekhard. Diplomats from Azerbaijan, the USA, Great Britain, France and Czechia and also businesspeople from Iceland and Germany will become the guests on the Polar Circle.
Within the forum it is planned to discuss issues of interaction between the regions within activity of such organizations as the Northern Forum, the Arctic Council, the University of the Arctic and the Russian Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East. Special attention will be paid to issues of northern reindeer husbandry.
The work of the forum will be conducted on platforms of 5 sections. The participants of the thematic sections will discuss issues of preservation of traditional branches of economy, measures on providing of access to land, forest and water biological resources, issues of regulation of activity of indigenous communities and responsible nature use.
Social policy will be scrutinized as a factor of sustainable development of indigenous peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East. The discussion on issues of preservation of spiritual and cultural legacy of indigenous ethnic minorities and popularization of traditional crafts and trades will take place. The participants also will discuss future of youth of indigenous ethnic minorities. Journalists of Russian and foreign mass media will work within the forum. It is planned to conduct online broadcasting of the opening ceremony.
Members of the Russian Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East will be among the guests. For the second time in a row the delegates had chosen the capital of Yamal for conducting of the congress of the association. As we should remind, in 2013 in Salekhard the delegates of the 7th congress elected Grigory Ledkov as the president of the association by majority of votes. Today he is a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
