Greenpeace asks Grigory Ledkov to become the main defender of nature on international platforms

Before the forum of indigenous peoples of the North, Siberia and Far East of Russia, the opening of which is taking place today, on the 23rd of March in Salekhard, Greenpeace of Russia sent an official letter to the President of the Russian Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East (RAIPON) Grigory Ledkov.
Representatives of the public organization ask the leader of RAIPON to arouse the issue of environmental safety and, in their opinion, the difficult situation with rights of indigenous peoples. As it is said in the message, Greenpeace calls RAIPON to arouse these urgent issues within the upcoming meeting of the Arctic Council. The Council was initially formed as an environmental organization, and it still has a duty to be busy with environmental issues.
Grigory Ledkov thanked the representatives of the public organization for such careful attention to these issues. As it is noted in the Russian Association, work in this direction is continued. During the latest several years a lot of decisions for regulation of problematic and controversial topics was taken and is being developed now on the legislative level in order to protect indigenous peoples of Russia, as the press-service of the governor of Yamal informs. These days the topic will be discussed in details within the working sessions of the forum in the capital of Yamal.
As we should remind, within the forum 5 sessions will work with participation of different experts, public organizations, representatives of the power, science and many others.
The most significant issues were taken: “Preservation of traditional branches of economy”, “Social policy as a factor of sustainable development of indigenous peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East”, “Spiritual and cultural heritage of indigenous ethnic minorities”, “Responsible use of natural resources” and “Youth of the indigenous ethnic minorities — the future of the Russian North”. As it is informed in the organizing committee of the forum, earlier the issues of youth policy were not brought into a separate session.
