Igor Kholmanskikh: Traditional way of life in Yamal is not an ethnic rarity but everyday reality

The biggest number of indigenous ethnic minorities lives in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug and Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug.
Experience of these regions will be interesting and useful for all the participants of the forum. The plenipotentiary envoy of the President of the Russian Federation in Ural Federal Okrug Igor Kholmanskikh told about it in Salekhard within the forum “Russia. Indigenous ethnic minorities of the North, Siberia and the Far East”.
Traditional way of life in these regions is not an ethnic rarity but everyday reality, as he says. He notes that in Yamal the number of representatives of indigenous peoples grew on 11 percent. 40 regional laws and 10 programs act in their support.
Representatives from Yakutia, Karelia, Khakasiya, Tyva, Sakhalin, Magadan, Kamchatka, Krasnoyarsk and Khabarovsk regions, Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug and Nenets Autonomous Okrug and other regions are participating in the work of the forum. Besides, representatives of the Arctic Council Indigenous Peoples Secretariat, the Association of World Reindeer Herders, the International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry arrived to Salekhard. Diplomats from Azerbaijan, the USA, Great Britain, France and Czechia and also businesspeople from Iceland and Germany became the guests on the Polar Circle.
