The International forum “Russia. Indigenous ethnic minorities of the North, Siberia and the Far East” is taking place in Salekhard.
Special attention is being paid to preservation of traditional branches of economy, including northern reindeer husbandry and fishery.
Within the working session on preservation of traditional branches of economy a delegate of the forum from the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Andrey Isakov tells what kind of help is given in resource centers to public organizations of indigenous peoples of Yakutia.
“Employees of the information and legal resource center of indigenous peoples of the North “Dyalit” (Point of view) help tribal communities to prepare constituent documents for registration and render consultative support. Having received documents on turnkey basis in the center, national communities receive all constituent documents quickly and without problems. “Our resource center helps ethnic communities to participate in contests. Grant support makes 500 thousand rubles. Mostly, communities are busy in reindeer herding, fishing and hunting. In total 172 communities are registered, and seven are in the process of registration. Rural inhabitants understand that creation of communities helps them to survive in difficult economic conditions, communities have more rights and opportunities in earning daily bread”, as Andrey Isakov said.
As we should remind, the work of the forum is taking place on five thematic sections. The participants are discussing issues of preservation of traditional branches of economy, measures on ensuring of access to land, forest and water biological resources, regulation of activity of indigenous communities and responsible nature management.
